Sofonda was born out of circumstances that are as sordid and sultry as she. However, the sordid and spiteful start to her life has lead her to a happier place where she now works diligently for the Armorette cause, helping and improving the lives of people with HIV/AIDS. Sofonda turned her life around and used her past to transform her life. As a young woman living on a dark, polluted corner of Bufford highway she performed for money to survive. Although worthy of academy awards, these performances were not on a stage. These performances took Sofonda to back alleys, back seats, cheap hotels, and other unthinkable places. After receiving a grant from the Greater Atlanta STD clinic as the outstanding patient of the year, she was excited to complete her GED receiving the distiguished honor of Magnum Cum Loudly. Using her experience of riding and driving "Big Machines" she embellished a resume and landed a job as a MARTA bus driver and payed her way through technical school. With a double major in make-up design and performance art, Sofonda blew through her professors.......I mean classes.....and set out to begin her career. After a short stint as a make-up artist at the Fiesta shopping center on Bufford Highway, sofonda decided to follow her dream to become a beauty queen and a performer. Sofonda found instant success by winning the first pageant she ever entered, Miss Camp Drag Auburn. Although a small pageant, It provided Sofonda with confidence to continue her pageant career. In May of 2006 she entered her second pageant, Miss Barfly, in which she swept every category except congeniality which is not something the women in her family aspire to anyhow! While serving as Miss Barfly 2006, Sofonda was afforded the opportunity to be a guest performer with the Armorettes. This experience made Sofonda a true believer in the power of volunteerism as she experienced a feeling of deep pride by helping other community members who were in need. This lead to her officially joining the Armorettes in 2007. In 2008, Sofonda entered her third pageant and again found her self accepting the crown and is serving as the current reigning Miss Gutterball. Sofonda embraces her past as can be seen as she performs some of her impressive old tricks for the Armorette show crowd on Sunday nights, proudly accepting payment for the Armorette PWA fund and helping those living with HIV/AIDS. Watching these tricks, you can see that Sofonda obviously has a "Deep Commitment" to the Armorette cause!
