As the oldest living Armorette in captivity I must say that of the 30 years I have been performing as a female illusionist, the 15 years I have been associated with the group have been my most enjoyable and hear warming. I have been performing since that day I was born! As a child my father built a stage for me in our garage, complete with working curtains, lights and two dressing rooms. What a great Dad! Beginning at age 12 I began performing for my family on that stage lip-syncing to Barbara, Judy and Liza. I would spend hours after school working on sets, costumes, etc. I believe that allowing me to have the creative freedom as a child, my parents prepared me for a future in entertainment. In 1982 a group of my friends in Birmingham, Alabama and me formed a gay softball team and joined the Hotlanta Gay Softball League. During that summer I met the Armorettes as they cheered the Armory team. Even then, I felt that one day I would be part of the fun the group personified. As my drag personality grew in Birmingham, I worked hard to develop my craft and it paid off many times. I won several pageants throughout the state of Alabama culminating in winning the state title in 1983. As Miss Alabama, I traveled the state performing and was lucky enough to be invited to perform in Atlanta in 1984. Again, I socialized with the Armorettes and still felt a bond. Throughout the eighties I continued playing softball in Birmingham traveling and performing around the country with our sister teams from Atlanta. When I moved to Atlanta in 1991, I joined the Armory softball team. In doing so, I finally had a tie to the group. In 1992, I was asked to become an Armorette reaching a goal I set for myself a decade before. The time I spent with the cast at the Armory during the nineties were some of the most fun I have had in my lifetime. Rejoining the cast in 2006, I have reinvented my character as well as some old friendships, and again I am having a wonderful time entertaining the folks at Burkharts and throughout Atlanta raising money for such an important cause.
